Plastic case circuit breakers are generally rated below 630 A (up to 1600 A for some new products), frame circuit breakers are rated higher, typically 630 A - 6300 A (e.g. our DW15 products). The DW16 and DW17 series of frame circuit breakers comply with this standard. In addition, frame circuit breakers are higher than plastic case circuit breakers in terms of cross-sectional capacity. In practice, circuits above 800A or those requiring particularly high sectional capacities or those requiring more functions should use frame type circuit breakers, while circuits below 630A generally use plastic case circuit breakers.
